
On 1 April 2011, Kobus Rossouw and Elmari du Plessis started practising as Rossouw & Du Plessis Attorneys.
Kobus and Elmari have been friends and classmates since 1994 and matriculated at Swartland High, after which both studied at the University of Stellenbosch. Kobus obtained his LLB degree in 2002, while Elmari got a BCom law degree in the same year, worked in London for a year and then obtained a postgraduate LLB from the University of Stellenbosch in 2004.
After Kobus worked at Fourie Basson and Veldtman as a candidate attorney for two years, he started working at Gustav W. Cook Attorneys in Malmesbury in 2005. Gustav Cook specialised in criminal law and Kobus was appointed to handle civil litigation and other general legal matters. He became a director of this firm in 2008.
Elmari worked at Marais Müller Yekiso from 2005 till the middle of 2010, after which she joined Gustav W. Cook Attorneys.
Gustav Cook emigrated to Australia in March 2011 and Kobus and Elmari started practising as Rossouw & Du Plessis Attorneys on 1 April 2011.
Kobus is a qualified conveyancer and specialises in civil litigation, which includes law of contract, claims for damages, divorce proceedings and debt collection. He also handles labour law, the drafting of prenuptial contracts and wills and the administration of deceased estates.
Elmari specialises in family law, which includes divorce proceedings, maintenance matters, disputes concerning the care of and contact with children and Children’s Court proceedings, as well as drafting surrogacy agreements and applications for confirmation of such agreements by the High Court.
Elmari is a mediator and facilitator and prefers to resolve family law disputes by means of mediation. She is a member of FAMAC (Family Mediators’ Association of the Cape).
In May 2011, Retief Uys joined Rossouw & Du Plessis. He obtained his LLB degree at the University of Stellenbosch in 2005.
Retief completed his articles at Marais Müller Yekiso, after which he practiced at Russell Turner Attorneys from 2008 till 2011.
Retief specialises in commercial law and law of contract. He also drafts and amends trust deeds and handles matters concerning immigration law and deceased estates.
